Cheap and Healthy: A New Way to Make Popcorn

If you, like me, love popcorn but don't like the weird yellow gunk that accompanies the Orville Redenbacher microwave variety and don't really want to splurge on a popcorn popper, I have the perfect solution for you. You're welcome.

Not so fast. After the jump, of course.

Entertaining: Table Settings

As an eight-year-old watching Titanic for the first time, I distinctly recall Kathy Bates telling Jack to "work from the outside in" at the formal first-class dinner he was invited to. That is where I first learned this crucial etiquette rule and I've never forgotten it.

In case you need a refresher or if I'm your Kathy Bates, here is a simple guide to setting a formal dining table.

As always, after the jump.

Chickpea Munch

Chickpeas are a surprising source of protein and ideal as a meat substitute for vegetarians. However, they can also make for a great afternoon or cocktail snack.

Instead of satisfying your salt craving with chips or (worse!) fries, consider this healthy, yummy and quick recipe.

Cookbook Review: The Illustrated Kitchen Bible

I found this book at the library while I was supposed to be studying. With over 1000 recipes, there would have to be a significant number of poorly written recipes for me to pass on this book. I'll post recipes that I like so keep checking back if you see something you like the sounds of.

Recipe: Apple Maple Bread Pudding

Difficulty: Easy
Time: 35-40 minutes
Yield: 4-6 Servings

I tend to do a lot of my baking on a whim. It usually ends up being somewhere around 10 or 11 at night when stores are either closed or I'm way too lazy to make a trip to get any ingredients. I made this recipe last night during one of my baking moods. All the ingredients are ones you probably have at home, making this a great comfort food recipe.

This recipe is super easy to double or triple but beware it's not the most attractive looking dessert for entertaining.

I adapted this recipe from The Pleasures of Cooking for One by Judith Jones, who used to be Julia Child's editor. See the recipe after the jump!
